Before BondingAfter Bonding

BONDING:

Bonding is the application of a tooth-colored composite resin to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured or discolored tooth. Unlike veneers, which are manufactured in a laboratory and require a customized mold to achieve a proper fit, bonding can be done in a single visit. The procedure is called bonding because the material bonds to the tooth.

Bonding is among the easiest of cosmetic dental procedures. The composite resin used in bonding can be shaped and polished to match the surrounding teeth. Most often, bonding is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth. It also can be used to close spaces between teeth, to make teeth look longer, or to change the shape or color of teeth.

Sometimes, bonding also is used as a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings, or to protect a portion of the tooth's root that has been exposed when gums recede.

No preparation is needed for bonding. Anesthesia often is not necessary, unless the bonding is being used to fill a decayed tooth.

Before VeneersAfter Veneers

PORCELAIN VENEERS:

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored material designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length and resulting in a greatly improved appearance.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are sometimes thinner and may require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement, but every case is different. Dr. Chao will be happy to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you. Call to schedule your consultation appointment today!

SMILE MAKEOVERS:

A Smile Makeover can dramatically enhance your appearance. You'll look younger, healthier, and more attractive. You'll feel more confident and have more self-esteem because you know you're looking great! Smile Makeovers aren't extreme. They are comfortable procedures that can typically be completed in 2 to 3 easy visits. Any smile can be enhanced. Crooked, overlapped teeth can be straightened. Gaps can be closed. "Gummy" smiles can be re-contoured. Stained, discolored teeth can be whitened. Chipped, broken teeth can be repaired, and missing teeth can be replaced. A Smile Makeover can change your life
